Whale (Not) Watching

When in Kaikoura, whale spotting is the name of the game. We did a few other things, but seeing a whale was our primary reason for including Kaikoura in our final stretch South back to Queenstown.

We headed out on rough seas, "high sea sick warning" according to the crew. Lovely. Long story short:

  • We unfortunately did NOT see a whale! The company has a 95% success rate at spotting whales; we're the special 5%!

  • Miraculously none of us got sea sick (but we were not spared the surround-sound of other passengers getting sick the whole time)

  • We DID see hundreds of dusky dolphins playing in the water, which was incredible and such a joy to see

  • We did get 80% refund on our payment because we didn't see a whale; not bad, eh!?

Doug did a great job pulling together this humorous video of our morning sea escapades :)
