Travel Day: Croatia > Greece

7:00am - Wake Up Girls!

We roused the girls out of a slumber to leave our AirBnB of the past three nights in Dubrovnik. Our destination, 20min away, the DBV airport.

An eight year old soaking in the world...

7:30am - Taxi

The six of of us, including Grammy & Gramps, hopped into a taxi. The final look across the Croatian coast as we headed to the airport was inspiring, like all the beautiful Croatian coastlines.

When we got in the taxi, it seemed like the right one. The driver had currency from around the globe arranged in a money bouquet of sorts on the dashboard. After noticing this, I caught a glimpse of Paige in the rear view mirror taking in the coastline. The moment felt good, seeing her eyes soaking in the world on this adventure we've put together for our family.

9:45am - Take Off

We rolled smoothly through the airport, our first flight since we landed in Vienna six weeks ago. Our journey had been in a car, including an overnight car ferry from Austria to Italy to Croatia. Six weeks without a flight, which will be the longest stretch of the trip from here on out, by a long shot - see our itinerary.

Noteworthy - this was the first time we'd been on a flight with Grammy & Gramps!

12:30pm - Athens Airport

We arrived into Athens and went through immigration and customs without a problem. We had a five hour layover ahead of us before our flight to the island of Mykonos. We bought airline tickets on Volotea, a budget airline. With that comes absurd fees for baggage beyond tiny size carry-ons, so we ditched the majority of our luggage in an airport storage locker to save the money.

1:30pm - "Lounging"

The six of us made our way to a lounge to eat some food and pass the hours. The girls take after me, and in particular Paige, as we showed the buffet who was boss.

Barbara is much more civilized in the presence of a buffet than the two animals seated at the table.

We carved out 1.5 hours of school time in the lounge. It was a Language Arts day, so I was with Paige and Sarah with Sadie. Also part of the their writing assignment for the day included interviewing Grammy about flowers and gardening to incorporate into writing assignments.

Next up, I caught up our Global Subway Instagram account with pics of the past few days for family and friends back home.

The girls enjoyed a "garoto"and a bit of screen time to cap the long lounge stay.

4:30pm - Meeting Another Around the World Family!

As we were getting up to leave, we traded a hello with another family in the lounge. Through small talk, we discovered that they too are a family traveling the world for a year! We could have chatted for hours, but only had a few minutes as we were heading to our flight. We exchanged blogs quickly and off we went - ManningtheGlobe.

5:30pm - Flight to Mykonos

Finally, we were off to our destination. It was a quick 30min flight.

Landing on Mykonos.

7:00pm - Hotel & Dinner

We arrived at Petinaros Hotel, our base for exploring the next few days. After dropping off our bags, we walked to a Greek restaurant for a delicious feast.

9:30pm - Curious Mappers

Wrapping up the night, both Paige & Sadie became entranced in the map of Mykonos. Sadie was especially interested to learn "more about how maps work." I gave her a quick tutorial, but promised tomorrow I'll give her the full rundown ;)

Hmmm...where to go.

Even travel days are fun on this adventure!
