The Need for Speed in Dubai

Updated: Nov 14, 2019

Our only excursion away from our amazing hotel during our time in Dubai was a speed boat tour.

It left from the Marina Port, which was a short distance off the Palm Jumeriah where we were staying. It was a 90 minute tour that took us all around to see the famous buildings, including around the The Palm Jumeirah and by our hotel.

We’d hoped to learn a bit more from the tour guide, but it was interesting to see what amounts to an oil money Sim City that has been erected in the desert.

The girls were loving the bumpy speed boat. Gramps’ name was mentioned a few times, nostalgic for our boat rides on Cape Cod!

Shake Shack

For a couple of months, we’d brought up that we’d get ourselves a Shake Shack burger in Dubai. The NYC chain that we love is big in the Middle East and we weren’t going to miss an opportunity. There was one at the Marina where the boat left, which we were going to hit up for an early dinner before going back to the hotel.

Shake Flop

One problem. Upon arriving, I realized that I’d forgotten my wallet! We’d arrived in an Uber and had already purchased our tickets online so we were good there. Realizing I had never set up Google Pay on my phone, I felt like a dinosaur. So that wasn’t an option for paying for burgers either.

We sulked our way back to the hotel, where we promptly crushed their amazing dinner buffet.

All was not lost . . . we ended up making good on our Shake Shack promise and enjoyed it at the Dubai airport.

All in, our lone excursion from the hotel was a good time.
