The Kind Dragon

Written by Paige Bohaboy

Once upon a time there was a Dragon named Wood Chopper. People in the nearby town were usually scared of him but one day they learned he was a kind Dragon. But in Pittsville, only one girl named Marabel who was 13 years old had already recognized the kindness in his heart.

Unlike the other townspeople, she loved to explore the woods near Pittsville. One day while she was exploring it got quite late when she came across the Dragon’s cave. It was black, but she saw fire that was shimmering off the walls inside. She decided to go into the cave and she came across Wood Chopper. At first she felt scared, but then she felt comfortable after Wood Chopper gave her a stick with nice warm fire so she could see her way home and also keep her warm.

A couple weeks later there was a big blizzard in Pittsville that was cold and covered the town with gloomy icicles. A couple of hours into the storm the Dragon saw they were in trouble and decided to help! But it wasn’t as easy as you thought it would be. When he got there, all the townspeople were frightened by the dragon. But Marabel stayed in the middle of the town square when Wood Chopper came next to her. She calmly petted the Dragon and whispered to Wood Chopper “take all the people to your cave and start a fire to keep them safe and warm like you did for me!”

There were 1,000 people who lived in Pittsville. The dragon was so big that he could fit the people and all their food on his head and back. They flew over the town square and into the woods. The townspeople were feeling a bit frightened because they were not used to flying on a dragon!

Once all the people got there he helped get the people into the cave to be warm and safe. The people all noticed his kind heart. They gave him some of their food to Wood Chopper to say thank you.

From that day forward they always visited him and enjoyed him. They also built Wood Chopper a stable so he could visit them in the town square anytime he wanted!

The End.
