Thai Street Food

As a family, we've always loved eating al fresco. The Thai culture takes it to an entirely different level. I'm hard pressed to think of a single block in Thailand where there wasn't at least one option to eat out on the street.

Thai Street Food Observations

  • It's delicious

  • Often it's in front of a residence, clearly it's their livelihood

  • It's their fast food, but don't confuse it with American fast food

  • Eating on plastic stools makes the food taste better

  • Their outdoor stoves are such simple gas burners...no Sub Zero grills here ;)

  • Portions are perfectly sized...if they could only see what a plate of food looks like in Texas

  • The average cost to feed us four...$6-10 per meal

While in Sukothai, we've exclusively eaten street food. Either on the street, or it's close cousin in a local market we've enjoyed frequenting.

Cooking MBA

Paige and Sadie love getting in the kitchen and their culinary curiosity has come out. Street food is the ultimate open kitchen. They get right up in the action, often resulting in giggles from the chefs.

A picture is worth a thousand words...

Trying out Sukothai noodles. A sweet and sour noodle soup found everywhere in this part of Thailand.
First of many Sukothai noodles.
A bowl of noodle soup, typically $1.25 each. They'd be $15+ in NYC!
Always condiments to adjust your spice levels on the table.
While biking, we came across this little food stand.
Simple menu, two choices.
Sarah ordered the Pad Thai. Best we've ever had!
A snack is never far away in Thailand.
Vegetable tempura in the market.
Watching a master!
Noodle-vore.

Daydreaming...

We don't know where we're going to live after our adventure, but if we live in a spot where outdoor cooking and dining is an option, we're all in!
