We've had great meals in Italy up to this point, but it's time to get serious. After a few days of tourist food in Venice (still pretty darn good), as we headed south into the Emilia-Romagna region and beyond, it was time.
3 Michelin Stars
Going through Modena, we did not go to world famous Osteria Francescana to see what its 3 star rating is all about. We did however stop at Franceschetta58, a much more affordable and casual off-shoot led by the same chef.
Our NYC Foodies
Paige and Sadie, much to the delight of Sarah & I, as well as diners around them, soaked up the experience.
Proud Parents
After the meal we commented to Paige & Sadie how grateful we are of their willingness to try and enjoy great food with us. We struck up a conversation with a young couple from Brooklyn seated across from us who were "inspired" that they would one day have children who enjoy food like our girls.
As I was chewing on delicious octopus myself during the meal, I couldn't help but recall reading My Two-Year-Old Eats Octopus: Raising Children Who Love to Eat Everything. As the official family feeder, reading this book just prior to starting to feed Paige, it drove my perspective on how make a best attempt. I'll summarize...in the countries where children are considered good eaters (France, Japan, Korea) kids menus don't exist, they don't snack all day, they simply come to the table hungry and eat.
Paige and Sadie didn't particularly enjoy my octopus, but they both asked to try it ;)
