Superbowl Monday in Sydney

10:00am, Monday.

Superbowl kickoff in Sydney.

I have a keen interest this year, with the 49ers in the Superbowl. To watch some American football, it only seemed appropriate to find an American to enjoy the game with.

Lonnie with Bondi beach over his shoulder.

Lonnie @ Bondi Beach

I got in touch with Lonnie, a former colleague at Mimeo. 4+ years ago Lonnie and his wife moved Down Under. Within Sydney, they've found an amazing spot right on Bondi beach, one of Australia's most famous beach spots.

I met up with Lonnie and we walked across the street from his apartment to the North Bondi RSL Club. It was a perfect spot to enjoy the game and catch up after many years. It was a rainy morning, so Sarah and the girls started off at a local bookstore (not many bookstores with English in the past few months) and joined Lonnie and I about an hour into the game.

Unfortunately the 49ers lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, but watching the game on a big screen with a view across Bondi Beach is not a Superbowl we'll soon forget.

Sadie, the game's over there!

After the game, we all stopped by Lonnie's apartment and then headed out for coastal walk north.

The view from Lonnie's apartment.

Lonnie walked with us the length of Bondi before we continued on our own to Bronte Beach. It was great to catch up with a Mimiac (name for a Mimeo employee) in another part of the globe. Lonnie gave us lots of great ideas to make the most of our time in Sydney. As a long time NYCer, in particular, we take his restaurant recos seriously - see our logic here.

This was the fourth time of the trip we'd seen a Mimiac in our travels. The first was Tyler (Seattle), followed by Yogesh (Pune, India), and finally Anthony (Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam).

Bondi to Bronte Coastal Walk

Off we went, for our second coastal walk in Sydney. We'd done a similar type walk to Manly beach, another famous spot with Trisha and Ben the day before. It was a 13km hike, so the girls' legs were a bit tired today. There was more complaining on the walk than normal, fair enough.

Departing Bondi, off we go on the Coastal Walk.
One of the salt water pools along the way.

The coast, homes and salt water pools along the walk were spectacular. Give us one of those houses...we'd probably never leave!

We wrapped the day, returning to our home base and put together a home cooked dinner to enjoy with Trisha & Ben.

What a great day! And thanks to Lonnie, who's officially joined our list of 'friends along the way'!
