Sky High in Langkawi

Updated: Jan 16, 2020

We woke up in our stilted room at Kunang Kunang and hit the always mediocre breakfast buffet...except, they had delicious fresh roti with curry! As a group we collectively must have taken down a dozen plus rotis.

A group of crazy Roti eating animals.

Gondola

We took a 20 minute taxi to the base Gunung Machinchang, which rises from sea level to 2,300 feet in the blink of an eye. The gondola, or SkyCab which takes you to the top has the steepest gradient in the world at 42° and the longest free span for a mono-cable car in the world. This was not a gondola ride up a bunny hill at your local ski resort.

We sprang for the up-charge and got a glass bottom gondola. As you can see, Sarah was totally comfortable with the situation ;)

Holding on for dear life!
Long way down...
Left: view up. Right: view down.

It was a 15 minute ride up the mountain. It reminded us of a couple other gondola rides on our trip: with the Zeiger family in Winter Park, CO and with the Sagan family in Austria.

SkyBridge

Once on the top, we walked through a path and onto the SkyBridge, a 410 foot pedestrian walkway impressively perched between two peeks.

View of the Sky Bridge from our gondola ride.
A sky high family.
Break glass in case of emergency.

Being up high gave us an appreciation for the natural beauty of this island. At this point, it was only lunch time, there was much day to go...
