On the first few days of the Summer road trip, Paige asked if she could fish somewhere along the way. We made good on the promise with only a couple of hours to spare!
Sarah and I kept it a surprise. Based on this sign at our holiday park for the last night, it's safe to say that Paige likely isn't headed for a career as a police detective!
Until the last couple of days, each of the holiday parks were teeming with Kiwis. As Summer is ending this week, with almost a flip of a switch, they emptied out. Families have gone home, getting ready for the start of the school year.
Lord of the Rings Nerding
I slipped quietly out of the tent bright and early for a final Summer roadtrip run. Hard to pass up another LOTR nerding opportunity like this, the third of the summer (see Gollum and Mt Doom posts - coming soon). The run was through the field where the Battle of Pelennor was filmed - the defense of Minas Tirith.
This is what it looks like on Tuesday morning when Peter Jackson isn't in town.
No war elephants in sight, but I did encounter some alpacas pleasantly roaming on the river.
I arrived back, as the Bohagirl troops were rising for the day. Tent packed up, a quick breakfast and we were off for our 9:00am fishing appointment.
Glacier to Plate
High Country Salmon farms Chinook King salmon. Their farm has ~150,000 salmon at any one time, 100% of their salmon is consumed domestically. One of those salmon was destined to be caught by Paige.
The surprise out of the bag, Paige was pleased to finally have a chance to reel in a big one. Here's a fun video of the experience.
After some morning sushi in the cafe, with Paige's salmon on ice, our next stop was home to Queenstown. We messaged Crystal Gardens where we had the salmon on the BBQ two hours later!
A great last day to an epic 2020/2021 NZ Summer road trip!
