If we keep up this pace up, we'll see the Zeigers half a dozen times on our trip around the world. Fine be me.
Italian Overlap
Ryan and Megan are on an Italian extravaganza, celebrating their 15th anniversary. Lucky for us, they were in Rome during our two week stay in Amelia.
Day Trippin'
Papa and the gang awoke and drove 30 minutes from our base in Amelia to Orte, to catch a 40 minute commuter train into Rome Termini. All was smooth and by 9:00am we were hitting the streets of Rome. It's like we never left - we have spent a glorious week with my Dad and Nan in Rome in May 2017.
School Field Trip
While Ryan & Megan were rapping up an early morning tour of the Vatican, we walked past the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. We prepared some Roman fun facts for the girls...this was a school day, so consider this a field trip.
20,000+ Steps with Ryan & Megan
We had our reunion with Ryan & Megan on the Spanish steps...and quickly began a whirlwind day tour to some favorite spots. My Dad took the lead on the sites, as he's become somewhat of a local with all his long stays in Rome the past few years.
Here was the route...followed by pics
Spanish Steps > Campo di Fiori > Forno Campo de 'Fiori (bakery, favorite focaccia bread) > La Sagrestia (lunch) > Pantheon > La Casa Del Caffè Tazza D'oro (favorite coffee) > Gelato > Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele > Trastevere (favorite neighborhood) > Ma Che Siete Venuti A Fà (Beer lovers paradise) > Roscioli (pizza spot for dinner) > Train Station...
Quick Pizza & Head Home
Before hopping a taxi to Roma Termini to catch our train back, we stopped at Antico Forno Roscioli, a delicious favorite of Papa & Nan's for a quick slice.
Will We Get Home?
Upon arriving at Rome Termini, we grabbed train tickets to head back home for the night. We melted into our seats to relax after a long day on our feet until...we were told the train was cancelled. After going back to the terminal, speaking with agent, two trains later...we sat down on an overnight train to Germany (which we were told would make an unscheduled stop in Orte). We held our breaths...if it was wrong, we'd have a heck of a time to get back to Amelia. It stopped in Orte ;)
It was a great day with the Zeigers. Wouldn't have mattered where it was, but certainly Rome made it extra special.
