Rules of the Road

Updated: Aug 30, 2019

Copenhagen is the first city I've visited where I observed bicycling as a transportation method is truly indoctrinated into the rules of the road. Watching the Danes in their bike lanes in concert with cars and pedestrians was inspiring.

Learning How It's Done

They learn early. Not only are there communal bikes at almost every playground (see observation), but there is also a public traffic park for kids to learn the rules of the road.

While Sarah was visiting the Danish Art & Design museum (read about Sarah's outing), the girls and I went to check out the Children's Traffic Playground.

Appropriately taking public transport to the Traffic Park.

Thunderstorms were rolling through Copenhagen in the afternoon, making it tricky getting to the park. The sky opened up just long enough for the girls to bike for about 15 minutes before a downpour - and they were only sharing the roads with one Danish boy.

Little people only allowed on these roads.

Here's to the Danish biking culture on full display!
