Raglan beaches are memorable for their black sand.
One morning we went down to watch the surfers do their thing. Exploring all around the black rocks kept us busy.
Later in the day we went to a bay of sorts near town. The girls proceeded to cover every inch of themselves in the fine black sand. Didn't seem to bother them one bit. Multiple washes later and there's still black sand wedged between the layers of their swimwear :)
The next day we went to a different beach for the girls to try their hand at boogie boarding. The lifeguards had shut the beach when we first arrived because the currents were so strong. They ultimately opened a portion of the beach back up but we didn't feel comfortable having the girls out in the waves. Instead they very happily frolicked in the white water.
