The girls are still of an age where they love a good playground session. Hitting up local playgrounds is a fun way to experience a slice of local life, as well as get some fresh air & exercise. Win, win.
Playground highlights in Copenhagen include:
The wobbly wooden balance boards at a playground we found on our first night in Copenhagen. We plopped down for dinner at a delicious Thai restaurant called Ranee's. The restaurant overlooked a square and about 40 feet away there was a playground. We let the girls run off and play there on their own while we watched from the restaurant. This year is about building their independence in ways that we can’t/haven’t always done in NYC up to this point, so they were pleased as punch. Best part of the playground was a circuit of old wooden circle planks that wobbled. Balancing across them was a challenge, and the girls were obsessed with conquering them :)
Skydebanehaven Playground in Vesterbrogade neighborhood: This spot was recommended by Jasmine’s Aunt & cousin, Copenhagen locals. A big hit! The girls were enthralled by the zipline part of the playground. The huge colorful climbing parrot was also pretty cool.
Bicycles galore! Literally every playground we encountered was littered with bicycles of all sizes, styles & colors, all available for public use. Hard to resist not hopping on, for kiddos & parents alike :)
We noticed that virtually all parents at the playground were actually playing with their children! We didn’t see any Danish parents on their phones on the sidelines; they were all actively engaged with their kids. A little different than the playground scene we were used to seeing (and honestly, would often partake in ourselves) in the States. It was a nice reminder & motivator to keep our phones in our pockets, and play with the girls.
Way to rock the playgrounds, Copenhagen!
