Last week, Paige and Sadie performed at a dance show, after spending the Spring in dance classes. See Sarah's post on it here.
One day Paige's teacher offered to Paige's Street Dance group that they could be part of the annual Queenstown Christmas Show. It meant they would have to stay after their regular street dance session for extra practice in the weeks leading up to the Christmas show. After practicing as a group they would then spend a couple of days in rehearsals with the full show cast. When we committed, we were not really sure what it was, we just said yes...
A few days ago, I dropped Paige off for a 6 hour practice at the local events center, where the show was taking place. What I thought was a small little local show, looked more like Taylor Swift was coming to perform in NZ.
Showtime
It turned out to be quite the show! The overall theme was that Santa was not going to be able to make it to NZ for Christmas without any Summer snow. As it turned out, it snowed and Christmas was saved...phew! There were dancing sheep, reindeer (Paige was one) and even the Queenstown Men's Ballet - it's beyond description, just watch to understand...
Proud of Paige
We were all very proud of Paige. She got up there and did it with her crew!
Covid Free Life
It is still quite strange on almost a daily basis to be living in a covid free bubble (once again NZ is free of any community cases at the moment). Being at events like this are a reminder of how fortunate we are. Stephen Colbert (who has a bit of a love affair with NZ), did a bit this week called "A Magical Land Where Hugs Still Happen".
Cricket Sidebar
Cricket is the second most popular sport in NZ (behind rugby). The formal world championships has gone the way of covid this year, but NZ allowed for a few teams to quarantine and compete over the summer. The teams participating are: Pakistan, West Indies, Australia & Bangladesh. Recently the Pakistan team caused a stir and were nearly kicked out when they violated quarantine rules (amongst themselves in their hotel facility).
Dropping Paige off at the event center for her Christmas dance show, I spotted the Australian team practicing. They were surrounded by guards, as they're still finishing their quarantine period, so they're not allowed in public setting.
The Pakistan team (who've now completed quarantine) were milling about in the event center. I don't know a thing about cricket, but in these countries these guys would be like seeing Lebron James walking down the street.
