When we enter a new hotel room, Paige and Sadie are quick to scout out the following:
Shampoo
Conditioner
Moisturizer
Instant Coffee
Sugar Packets
Creamer
They’re not worried about how their hair looks or particularly dehydrated; they’re scouting for a game they’ve masterminded while on the road.
It goes something like this...they collect everything, close the door and get to mixing the different items in a variety of ways in cups while they’re chattering away (not exactly sure what they are saying). We think they're pretending to make a YouTube video, inspired by all the slime making videos they've watched the past few months.
Delhi Version
At some point during the trip (I think in an airline magazine), Sadie had come across a picture of a spice market with the vibrant colors you see in the Middle East and throughout Asia. Her immediate thought, “I want to get some of these to play with.” I promised her that when we got to India, she could do it!
Spice Shopping in Old Delhi
When we weaved through the spice market in Old Delhi (read about Sarah’s post), there it was. Sadie immediately tugged on my arm and said, “We have to get some!” They each selected a spice - one tumeric & the other a non-spicy chili of some type - they could bring back to their hotel bathroom lab.
Doing Their Thing
I set up shop for them, hoping to somewhat contain the mess and avoid broken glass (it’s happened). The excitement on their face is hard to describe! They immediately shut the door and got to work.
Sarah and I only got to see the aftermath…
While slightly annoying to their Mom & Dad because of the mess and of course a bit of wastefulness, whatever it is they’re in fact doing is striking a cord in the kid-fun/sister-bonding/experimenting department.
I asked Paige what she likes about it and she said, “I like science experiments and we don’t get to do any.” Time to see if we can fill that interest while on the road...outside of the bathroom.
