Lake Bungalow Overnight

Caution, objects may be larger than they appear.

When Sarah and I were on our honeymoon 13 years ago, we skipped the famous Ha Long Bay in Vietnam. It was a spot we always had in our minds to see the next time we were back in Southeast Asia. Speaking with various people we'd come to learn that it had crossed the tipping point of being over touristed - you had to see through the hordes of people and trash to see the beauty. Khoa Sok in Thailand was suggested as an alternative.

Our launching point to the lake in Khao Sok National Park.

Boat Ride to the Bungalows

We booked an overnight with a tour company called Smiley Tours. After a 45 minute drive, we hopped on a 1 hour boat ride to our spot for an overnight. It became apparent very quickly, we were in for a treat.

Smiley Raft House

Finally we arrived at the our spot for the overnight, Smiley Raft House.

Ready to relax at the lake.

A shot of our bungalow.

Right side pic of our shower and toilet (not pictured) which were outside and with a nice view of the backyard ;)

Afternoon in the Lake

After some curry for lunch, it was time for an afternoon of fun on the lake. The water was beautifully clean and warm. We spent hours on kayaks, inner tubes and jumping off the deck. It really was a special afternoon of family fun.

Sunset Cruise

We wrapped up a great day with some Thai beer, Pass the Pig (a family favorite game) and a sunset cruise where we marveled at the height of some palm trees along the lake shore.

We often will say before going to bed at night, "wow, that was a great RTW (round the world) day". This certainly was.
