Hike to the Top

We've only been on the road for 60 days and by my unofficial count we've been on about 15 nature hikes, the majority of them spectacular. The girls started our trip with some strong NYC walking legs, but their hiking stamina has taken off on this trip.

View of the cross from our house.

A Cross Atop the Hill

From our house in Amelia, there are two large hills with noticeable crosses, particularly at night when they light up. On the second day here I weaved up trails during a run and found my way to the cross (learn more about my runs here). I returned there four times over the past 12 days during runs, but it was exciting to share it with Sarah and girls today.

Unplanned Trek

We decided to go out for a walk to stretch our legs this afternoon. We'd spent the majority of the morning on schoolwork and a bit of time at the pool. Our route took us up toward the trail and we decided to give it a go... it was Paige who insisted we get to the top!

Maybe this is why we were the only ones on the trail?

Up Up Up...

Consistent with my running experience here, we didn't see a single person during the hike.

With only a break for a few sips of water, we made it to the top in 45 minutes.

We made it!

Bugging Out

At the top, the girls were occupied with finding roly poly pill bugs at the base of the cross. A few lady bugs also stopped by to say hello.

Was this lady bug on a pilgrimage?

Happy Feet, Happy Souls

We've been on many memorable hikes and will find ourselves on many more this year. This is one that we'll certainly remember.
