A quick 2.5 hour flight from Bhutan and we'd arrived in our next country, Thailand!
Bohaboy SE Asia...1990
I fondly remember a family vacation to Southeast Asia when I was in middle school. I'm excited to be back and open the girls' eyes to this place, as it did mine many years ago. To this day Kasey (my sister) and I talk about what an impact that trip had on us. I still remember feeling a bit scared at the difference in the smell and look when we first ventured into Bangkok on our first night in 1990.
I hope the girls get out of their comfort zone here too.
Old Capital Bike Inn
By typical standards, the Old Capital Bike Inn was not expensive, but I had been hopeful for a really cheap/nice hotel for our three nights in Bangkok. Being a bit too late on the booking, choices were a bit limited. Fortunately, we found a gem.
Honeymoon Suite
In booking places in SE Asia, we've sometimes found an appropriate room for four people isn't always easy. The standard hotels are not like the US where you'll always have 2 large queen sized beds in a 'standard' room. The room that could accommodate us was the honeymoon suite.
The room had some super cool character. You had to walk up steep stairs to enter and down steep stairs on the other side to get to the bathroom. Very cool and perfect for a few days.
Dinner Hunting
After dropping bags, we found a restaurant about a 10 minute walk from the hotel. We weren't more than 5 minutes from our hotel when Bangkok street food was calling to us...we couldn't get past it.
We started with noodle soup all around for <$6 USD, followed by some meat skewers for a few bucks. A delicious start to our Thai eating, for less than $10.
Breakfast
Best of the trip so far by a mile; we all agreed.
Eating is going to be fun for the next couple of months!
