I like to eat. We like to eat. Wasting meals is against my food religion.
500 Meals
Subtract quick bites in airports, breakfast before excursions, etc... I suspect we have ~500 meals to eat during our year on the road. I’m determined not to waste one!
NYC Food Snob
I admit, after 10+ years of living in NYC, I’ll always bias a restaurant recommendation from a current or former NYC city dweller vs non. Without that credibility, I’m more likely to snoop around online reviews when receiving a recommendation...full transparency here!
Tyler & Megan
I reached out to Tyler, who I worked with for years at Mimeo in New York and more recently when Tyler was based out of the Mimeo Seattle office. Tyler choose the spot and my NYC food bias held true. We had a delicious Vietnamese meal at Monsoon in the Capital Hill neighborhood.
The Last Time We Caught Up - READ THIS
Rewind to May 2018, Sarah and I got away for her 40th (a year late) for five days in Iceland. After landing in Reykjavik, we drove 45 minutes to relax in a natural hot spring, or ‘Hot Pot’ as they call them in Iceland.
Who did we unintentionally run into? Tyler & Megan!
We had known they were in Iceland, at the end of their vacation and departing the next day for home. Meeting up wasn’t an option, as Sarah and I originally had a boat excursion 3-4 hours from the airport that we had to leave for immediately upon arrival. The day prior, the boat we were scheduled on was cancelled, so our plan B was to visit this hot pot before our long drive.
Putting this unintentional meeting in perspective, it would be like flying into JFK, going to a random non-tourist location in New Jersey and running into someone who lives on the other side of the world.
Will Tyler & Megan Go Round the World?
One of our co-workers at Mimeo, Kevin, said to me: “traveling around the world like this sounds like something that Tyler would do.”
I agree with Kevin. I’m putting my money on Tyler and Megan navigating the globe in 2029.
