Flying Arrows in Bhutan

Archery is Bhutan's national sport. Apparently only men can play competitively; women can play recreationally, but that's still in the early days of acceptance. This part didn't sit well with me or the girls, but there you have it.

Nowadays they use mostly compound bows, but we got to see a match played with old-school bamboo bow & arrow. We snagged spots in the first row of the bleacher seats to catch the action up close.

This girl is in the zone, entranced by every bit of the archery match

Match in Play

The target is insanely far away, at ~145 feet afar! Their precision is crazy impressive. The bow releases and whizzes through the air so quickly, it was difficult to even track it with our eyes. Paige was especially in the zone, focused on every bit of the action.

After the match we chatted up a player. He graciously answered all our questions and obliged our request for a picture :)
