After a quick flight from Chu Lai airport to Ho Chi Minh City, we unloaded into an Airbnb, our home for the next three nights.
The plan was to quickly turn around and meetup with Anthony and his partner, Sean. Anthony and I worked together at Mimeo for 8 years, including a couple of years on the same team. He had moved out to San Diego with his partner, Sean, so I hadn't seen him in a very long time.
A Wrench in Our Plans
More like a wrench in Sarah's back. On Tam Hai island, she tweaked her neck and it moved down into her back, becoming quite painful. The flight certainly didn't help, so she made the call to take it easy, staying in with the girls, ordering in some take out and watching a movie. The report was that the food was bad, the movie mediocre, but it was good fun to do something that was such an ordinary part of life before we left NYC.
I jumped in a cab and headed to a dinner spot in District 1 to meet up with Anthony and Sean.
Adult Dinner, No Kids?
I told Anthony and Sean that I was nervous, this was my first meal in six months without Sarah and the girls. Would I be able to hold an adult only conversation? I'm happy to report it's still possible.
Their Last Night of Vacation
Anthony and Sean, on their first trip to Asia, had been in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam for a couple of weeks. I welcomed them to the fun of traveling in Southeast Asia and that so many places they've been to before would now seem so ordinary; they got it.
It was really great to catch up, tell a few old work stories, learn about their life in San Diego (they love it, who wouldn't?) and trade travel stories.
Thanks to them both for taking the time to catch up. Catching up with friends in different corners of the world doesn't happen often on our adventure. So money when it does!
