8:30am...
"Wake Up Mommy & Daddy!!!," yelled Paige.
Paige, Sadie and Papa had been up for almost an hour; Sarah and I in a deep slumber.
I waddled into the kitchen to start the coffee, NO more milk!
Fortunately 2 hours later we were in Assisi, drinking strong cappuccinos and discovering yet another gem of a place.
Ignorance is Bliss
The gems discovered thus far on our trip have often been surprises. With the amount of planning and travel involved, we frequently find ourselves deciding late at night or early morning what we are going to do for the day. The result is a limited scope, allowing us to view the day's adventure with child-like eyes.
Strong Cappuccinos
After a 1.5hr car ride from our home base in Amelia, we fueled up to explore Assisi. Papa's morning walk down/up Nob Hill to the Ferry Building in San Francisco prepared him well for his day with the RTW family.
Wandering the Alleys
We weaved up the medieval streets on our way to the main attraction. Each turn offering a treat.
Pause..It's Lunch Time
We are in Italy after all. Since visiting Rome in 2017, Sadie on a weekly basis talks about how much she loves cacio e pepe. We saw it on the menu for the first time on this trip at Locanda del Podesta, a delicious spot...
Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi
After lunch, we continued up to the breathtaking Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi. It consists of two churches built into the side of the hill, an UNESCO World Heritage site.
Bookend
We started Assisi with a cappuccino and finished our time with a second at Bar Giardino San Lorenzo, with a final look at the breathtaking views we'd been enjoying all day.
