Coffee is one of my favorite things. The smell. The taste. The morning ritual. It all brings me joy. Same goes for Doug. One of our favorite things to do together is scout out a legit coffee spot, linger over a cup, and explore the surrounding area. We jokingly call it #coffeshopping.
Same goes for me & my close friend, Dan.
Go Cats!
Dan and I were the same year at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, but didn’t actually meet until we were 4,000+ miles away in Seville, Spain our Junior year (1997/1998) as part of a Northwestern study abroad program. We bonded quickly over the experience of living in a new country and speaking a different language day in/day out. My friendship with Dan - and fellow NU buds Melanie & Christine - forged that year in Spain continues strong 20+ years later over conversation & laughs.
Cafe Con Leche
That year in Spain we spent countless hours sipping cafe con leche in the Baguetteria, a cafe across the street from La Fabrica, where the majority of our University of Seville classes were held. Whiling away hours over coffee made us feel independent & part of the Spanish culture; it’s what the locals did, and we were all about assimilating. I don’t think any of us even drank coffee before that year in Spain!
Dan & I have been fortunate to overlap living in Chicago and Buenos Aires, Argentina. Getting coffee together is our thing (before Seinfeld made it his gig on TV!). So naturally, when we came to visit Dan & Bryan in Montreal, we hit the streets each day for coffee at their favorite cafes. In my college days I would often go on bar crawls; now I go on coffee crawls :)
Two AM Coffee Stops
Each day in Montreal we’d start at a lovely cafe with Dan & Bryan and wake up over coffee, conversation and bakery yummies. Then we’d mosey on over to another cafe for a 2nd round of coffee. Many americanos, lattes, cortados and steamers (P&S) were consumed over our Montreal days, largely in the Plateau neighborhood. It was great to explore Montreal by foot as we navigated from one spot to another. Highlights were Pâtisserie Rhubarbe, Noble Cafe, Café Méchants Pinsons and La Bête à Pain.
We’re grateful for that quality time over java with Dan & Bryan, and look forward to more #coffeeshopping with friends & family as we continue our travels!
