Chiang Mai > Chiang Rai

Travel day north from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai. Moving further North and getting closer to our next destination of Laos.

Chiang Mai Bus Station

Slightly different to the scene at Port Authority in NYC. Monks grabbing some breakfast before catching their bus. At 8:00am sharp, everyone stood at attention while the Thai national anthem was played over the abysmal PA system.

The scene during the national anthem...

VIP Bus

For the 3.5 hour journey we booked not just any bus, but a VIP bus. For the grand total extra of $7 USD, we have big seats, a 'bus attendant' and a bathroom. Sarah had mentioned to the girls a few days ago we were in a VIP bus, so they were very excited about the whole experience.

Sarah and I caught up on blogging, while the girls read and then watched the Christmas movie Elf, starring Will Ferrell, to get in the spirit. It was also fun for them to see scenes all over NYC that they recognized.

First class around the world (at least for a few hours)!

Lunch in Chiang Rai

While we were putting a few things away after arriving in the hotel room, unbeknownst to Sarah and me, Paige and Sadie had been busy on my phone looking for a place to eat. Paige found a gyoza restaurant that looked delicious, so we went! And it was.

This was only the first platter, we took down 50!

Walking Around

We saw a few sights, and then Sarah/Sadie broke off to get some stamps at the post office. Paige and I wandered around, but couldn't get past a street vendor selling bags of fried bananas and sweet potatoes for 20 baht (~.60 cents). They were coated in a coconut batter before deep fried...Thailicious!

Stamp hunters.
Food finders.

Betty's Coffee

We grabbed a good cup of coffee at Betty Coffee. The owner seems to have an obsession we couldn't quite put our finger on.

Wats (Temples) Everywhere

Of course, you can't go far without bumping into beautiful Wats in Thailand. We've been surprised at how interested the girls are to always check them out vs the "not another one" attitude. They are pretty cool and unique.

Failed School Attempt

We headed back to our hotel for a school session, today was scheduled for math. A poor internet connect changed those plans so the girls did some pages in their Reading Comprehension & Writing workbooks instead.

After a really tasty dinner not far from our hotel, it was back for bed...which I'll be enjoying as soon as I publish this blog post ;)
