Tonight I went into the girls’ Tel Aviv bedroom to say goodnight. The door was closed and they had been playing quietly for about 15 minutes, jammies on & teeth already brushed.
I knocked politely & then entered. They were huddled on their bed, deep in pretend play. I didn’t know what they were playing but I hopped onto the bed and asked “What are you playing? Can I play too?!”. They enthusiastically said “Sure!”
Guess what they were playing? Airport!! They brought their imaginative airport play to life for me and we dived right in.
Check out all the amazing elements of their pretend airport play:
Checking in at airport counter
Providing my passport for review, scanning & stamping
Confirming whether I will check my luggage or carry it on board
Weighing my luggage to check it’s within kg limits
Going through security (complete with TV remote control as scanner)
Offer to upgrade my ticket to Business Class; they provided a pretty compelling offer ($30 to upgrade and checked luggage free; or else checked luggage $15 alone, no upgrade)
Confirming my sunscreen was within liquid size carry-on limits
Loud speaker announcements (with hands over mouth to muffle sound) to announce that my flight was boarding
Finding space for my luggage in the overhead bin
They clearly “get” the ins & outs of flight travel and are un-fussed by them. It made my heart full to see them bringing to life all the logistics of travel in such a fun & carefree way! It was a nice reminder that this year is giving the girls the gift of loving to travel and being excited & comfortable with it.
