A Happy Text

Our last full day in Tasmania started like many others; I quietly tip-toed outside while everyone was sleeping for a morning run. It was just me and one other runner as the sun rose on Muirs Beach.

Text - “This is Pagie!”

When I was about half-way done with my run, I got a text:

“Hi this is Paige. I want to make Mom breakfast!! But I need your help to cook! So be quiet when you come in!”

I was so excited by Paige’s thoughtfulness I immediately cut my run short and headed back home. On the way, I passed a bakery and picked up some family favorite Sourdough bread for the special breakfast.

Breakfast

Paige had already made Sarah a coffee. When I got home, it was right into cooking. This was definitely a “Sweet P” moment!

Back with the sourdough!
Sweet P delivers the goods!
Yes, we are traveling with our own stash...in the land of Vegemite.

On the Road

Checkout at 10:00am sharp and we were on the road for a 2.5 hour drive along the coast. Our destination was an AirBnb in Hobart where we have a flight out tomorrow mid-day. The plan was to just explore as we went up the coast and stop along the way.

Devils Corner Cellar Door Winery

Our first stop was 30 minutes into the drive, at the Devil’s Corner Cellar Door Winery. It had stunning views back onto the Hazards Mountains we’d hiked the day prior. When I explained that we’d walked around “that mountain” to Paige and Sadie, they were amazed.

The girls and I headed out to play frisbee while Sarah enjoyed watching us play with a glass of wine.

Frisbee coming at you!
Just a bunch of yuppies at a winery.

Soon enough, Sarah joined the fun, bringing a ball to the party for a side game of catch.

As we played in the field, I was reminded of the advantages of being in such a remote part of the world. If this was Napa, we’d be waiting in lines. Instead, we were in this beautiful place with about a dozen other travelers.

Fish & Chips

Back on the road, we headed another hour to Triabunna where we planned to stop for lunch. A quick check on Google and there was one option for food in the town: The Fish Van, which was right on the port. It was pretty solid, the fish they fry clearly coming into port just a few feet from the restaurant.

I took a picture of a sign that gave me a chuckle. Paige asked me what it meant and I said, they’ve probably seen a bunch of New Yorkers here.

Proceed with caution!

Hobart AirBnB

Our internet at the last two spots has gotten us behind on our blog and other items. We’re also eager to get the girls back into school after a few days off. Despite an AirBnb in a residential area of the city, I sit here writing this post in an offline document because the WiFi is like AOL dial-up in the early 90s.

Dinner was an absolute hodge-podge; we used up most of what we’d collected over the past week in Tasmania.

Pierced Ears

The hot topic for the last two hours has been when the girls are going to get their ears pierced. There was no conclusion, but it sure led to an animated conversation from the girls.

Back on the plane tomorrow, headed to the Australian Gold Coast…
